If you are aiming to make it big in Mixed Martial Arts, you should pay particular attention to nutrition aside from rigorous strength training. It is very important for any fighter in the game to maintain ideal weight and attain sufficient supply of essential nutrition. The body should always be in good condition and it should not lack any nutrient that could help improve and maintain a good fighting condition. Mixed Martial Arts fighters should be active and disciplined in gaining and keeping good and ideal nutrition.

What fighters love most about nutrition recommended for training is that there is no need to limit bard intake. In fact, it is more advisable for anyone training to be a Mixed Martial Arts fighter to take in more carbohydrates with fat. This is because there is always a big need for energy supply. Carbohydrates intake is also most advisable because it could effectively replace burning of muscle glycogen, which happens when bard dieting and limiting carbohydrates consumption. Some fighters love the recommended nutrition because it is very rare that much more intake of carbohydrates-rich bards is required.

The carbohydrates should be sourced out from typical sources, as well as from sports drinks and other gels that are consumed all throughout training sessions. The most recommended sources of bard energy are fruits, whole grains, and vegetables. Though there is emphasis on carbohydrates intake, nutritionists still do advise fighters to prefer a well balanced and nutritious diet. Favor could be accorded to more nutritious bards as well as to protein sources.

The frequency and timing of meals should also be taken care of. In general, it is most recommended that bard intake be done at least two hours prior to training sessions. During a long and anticipated session, it is best if you would consume about 50 grams to 75 grams of carbohydrate bards. You are advised to pay more attention towards restoration of nutrition following long and more tedious training sessions. For a recovery snack, it could be healthy to toss about 10 grams to 15 grams of protein.

Be sure to eat even a minimal measure of carbohydrates especially during the morning. Doing so could help you preserve a good blood glucose level especially because early morning training for Mixed Martial Arts requires much energy. Do not starve yourself. There is no need to lose weight if you are into Mixed Martial Arts.

Muay Thai is considered to be one of the deadliest kick boxing sports in the history of Mixed Martial Arts. Only a boxer that has trained for so long and with full strength has joined in the fights. Muay Thai originated from Thailand but because of the lack of supporters from the government and the people there, the sport is now slowly disappearing from the radar. It is only now with mixed martial arts that it is slowly gaining ground again.

If you want to be Muay Thai boxer, you are required to train under the supervision of a certified instructor of Muay Thai. If you only train by yourself together with your one meter kicking bag, I would say that you will just be wasting your time. In Muay Thai, you need lot of discipline just to achieve the highest level of proficiency and superiority in fighting. Only someone trained to teach the sport can impart such knowledge and guide you. Muay Thai can benefit everybody. It is one sport that you have to train for regularly. By regularly, it does not mean that you have to do it every day. You have to consider having a day off for at least one day to avoid incurring injuries.

To master Muay Thai techniques, you should first have a solid foundation on the basics. If you are a beginner, you can focus on the body movements. With your trainer, try to develop the following: (1) excellent balance; (2) perfect timing; (3) pin-point accuracy; (4) coordination; and (5) speed and power. With each training, you will learn each of these. You may even get an unexpected kick from your trainer just for him or her to see your balance and your speed. You must consider your stamina. This means that you have to eat right while training and must do cardio workouts. Body strength is very important because your energy level will help you survive a fight. The longer you can withstand your opponents punches, the better for you.

Of course, while learning, you should join in fights. You can learn a lot in sparring matches and informal competitions. During sparring you will develop your techniques and become familiar with what goes on during fights. You will be able to see what your weaknesses are and correct your techniques as you go along.

Mixed Martial Arts is so named because it is a mixture of several self-defense sports that are used during certain phases of the fight. To be able to excel, one has to be skillful in all aspects of fighting: striking and grappling, standing, and on the ground.

The leading fighting systems of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fall under three styles and class: wrestling, kickboxing and Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ).

Basically, kickboxing is used to strike and defend our feet and body. Wrestling is for taking our opponent down or defend their takedowns. BJJ finishes the ground fight or defend ourselves from there.

Combining all three defenses is an art in itself.

Ground Fighting

Ground fighting is where each of the two fighters wants to take control and be dominant in order to submit the opponent.

Styles used here are Brazilian jiu jitsu, submission and catch wrestling. Since the combatants are at close range, grappling techniques like locks and chokes are used. The fight is for taking the dominant position to mount and strike punches at the opponent.

A mount position is better than a bottom position. The fighter at the top has the distance and elbow room to strike, while the fighter at the bottom position will have difficulties because the elbow room is limited.

Common techniques used here are elbow strikes, head butts, knee strikes and the punches. Certain fighters who specialize in this field (wrestlers and BJJ specialists) normally take their fights to the ground.

Stand-up fighting

Basically, this is the fight where the opponents are standing up, usually at the beginning of the combat.

Stand-up fighting techniques include kicks and punches and the blocking counter punches. The aim is to injure or knock out the opponent. The arts used here include boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai.

Critical here would be to understand the concept of correct distance and timing. It will determine which techniques are to be used or not.

Out-of-range zone is the area where the opponent is out of range for a kick or a punch. The only way to hit is to close the distance. However, the opponent might shoot in, possibly to go for a takedown, or to close the distance himself to do the clinch fighting.

The next is the kicking distance. The kicking distance is where the opponent can be attacked with the use of the legs. Here, the fighter usually fires kicks like the round house or the front kick. The most preferred kick in this range is the Muay Thai roundhouse.

Then, there is the punching range, basically referring to the distance where one can strike the opponent using fists or elbows. The technique used here is the jab punch and the closest is the elbow or knee strike.

Boxing, on the other hand, is solely concerned with only the punching distance. In mixed martial arts however there is a requirement for close range fighting. It is essential to know all the punching ranges as it enables one to correctly execute the techniques. One’s life might depend on it.

Learning Mixed Martial Arts is difficult. You do not only have to learn different techniques in one go, you have to identify and invest in some of the basic gears for your training. I can tell you, the gear is not cheap. Robes, belts, jackets and protective gear are just some of the mandatory materials that you need in mixed martial arts sport. These martial arts gears will protect you from injuries and allow you flexibility in movement. Don’t worry, if you are serious about the sport, you can use these gears for a long time, even after training.

The first gear that you have to buy is the jacket. Wearing jackets during training can protect your body from scratches and bruises. Because it can be costly, make sure that you maintain it properly. As much as you can, invest in new ones. Those with tears on the fabric will not protect you well. Look for jackets that are made of lightweight fabric but are durable. Check for double-stitching because these are more durable than those with only one.

Next, you have to invest in a belt, which serves as your skill level indicator like with martial arts forms judo and karate. For every color of belt that you buy, you will go up the ranks. The black belt of course means that you have already mastered all of the skills that you need to learn. The belt that you wear will define your skill level and this will determine which people you will be fighting against in games. It is important that you wear the right color of belt because this will define you as a fighter. Your belt will be stretched in every training session so make sure that you buy one that is made from durable fabric. Like the jacket, consider double stitches.

Because mixed martial arts is basically the combination of different martial arts skills, the uniforms and protective gears used for the sports are the same. For instance, you have to wear wrist guards and knee caps in karate or judo. The same goes with mixed martial arts. Make sure that the materials of these knee caps and wrist guards are durable and that there are padding inside. In taekwondo, you are required to wear helmet and a light chest armor. When buying these gears, make sure that you choose durable materials and a good quality chest armor. Don’t scrimp because these items will protect you from your opponents when you fight. These will protect your torso from speedy kicks. Remember that kicks in the chest can be dangerous. Helmet with at least two layers of foam is a good buy. It will help minimize the force that your head has to go through every time your opponent’s kicks it.

One of the fastest-growing spectator sports today is Mixed Martial Arts, known as MMA for short. Its list of competitors and tournaments all over the world is growing. Just as fast-growing is the number of MMA enthusiasts who watch the new sport in fascination.

A newcomer to the sport complains why combatants punch and kick one another like boxers and later, would continue to grapple at the mat like wrestlers. What’s more, they try to hurt one another in various brutal ways just like some street fighters.

Basically, Mixed Martial Arts is that combat sport that uses a variety of fighting styles and techniques that includes everything from punching and striking to grappling and wrestling. Because of the variety of sporting tactics incorporated in it, it was aptly named Mixed Martial Arts.

MMA has been around for some time but its popularity began to peak only in recent years.

Fight tactics

The sport had been known to adapt several fight styles proven to be effective in the ring. Although fighters play their specialty sport, they will inevitably meet opponents who are specialists in others.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of these fight tactics.

Sprawl-and-brawl

This is a stand-up tactic used to avoid ground fighting and uses sprawls to defend against takedowns. Good with this are kick boxers and karate fighters who will try to keep the fight standing.

Clinch fighting

Clinch holds prevent opponents from moving away to strike. The fighters try to do takedowns, striking the opponent using knees, elbows and other punches.

A favorite of wrestlers who know boxing and Muay Thai fighting, this style can bring the opponent to the mat where they can be devastated by the wrestlers expertise.

Ground-and-pound

This is a ground fighting tactic where the fighter takes the opponent down with a takedown or a throw, obtain a top position, and then striking to obtain submission.

Wrestlers are very good at this tactic, but nowadays everyone trains for this important fighting style.

Submission grappling

This is another ground fighting tactic where the fighter takes down the opponent to the ground (using a takedown or a throw), obtain a dominant position and apply a submission hold to defeat him.

This is mostly used by fighters with backgrounds in wrestling, judo, sambo, and Brazilian jiu jitsu.

Lay-and-pray

This is a derogatory term for a strategy used by fighters who take their opponents down but cannot finish them off to submission, hoping for a decision to win.

It means the defensive strategy of a defensive fighter who is down but is able to tie up his opponent, causing a stalemate and “praying” for the round to end.

These are some of the strategies used by practicing MMA fighters today. There are still some other tactics that fighters have been bringing over to the sport itself. Only time can tell if these will be successful enough in their campaigns to be incorporated again into the ever-growing arsenal of Mixed Martial Arts fighting tactics.

When you are serious about getting better in any kind of sports or other events, you must be equipped with the right gears. Through this, you will be able to easily master the craft and it will be easier to follow the rules and techniques on how to do things. This is true in mixed martial arts – MMA. If you want to learn and know more about it, you have to invest on the right equipments that can help you become better at this field.

MMA is a full contact combat sport. This utilizes different fighting techniques based on traditional and non-traditional martial arts. When you become part of the competition, you have to be able to utilize the grappling and striking techniques based on your expertise. You will be pitted against those who have different backgrounds when it comes to martial arts. To make sure that you will succeed in the venture, you must understand all the rules and regulations and abide by these. The sport continues to become more popular through time. It has adapted certain safety techniques and rules to protect the players from encountering serious mishaps during the events.

When you have decided to take the matter seriously, you have to find the right gears that can help you during your competitions. So how do you start looking for the right training gears and supplies that can help you with your sport?

1. You should check out the stores nearest you that carry these items. You must take note of the prices and ask the representative from the stores about the good quality brands when it comes to the items that you are looking for.

2. To make it easier for you, you can simply browse online stores that sell these kinds of gears. You can also purchase the items online. You just have to be very careful with your dealing and research about the sellers before you give in any of your personal and financial details. Read the clients’ testimonials so that you will learn the reputations of the sellers if they can be trusted or not.

3. If you are already training for mixed martial arts – MMA, you can ask your trainers or peers if they know any suppliers or if they are selling their items that are still in good condition for reasonable prices. This will help you, especially if you don’t have enough budget to spend on the venture.

Not many people know, except the aficionados of the sport itself, that the concept of combining the elements of multiple martial arts was pioneered and popularized by the legendary Bruce Lee himself. Known today as Mixed Martial Arts or MMA, the new hybrid sport is now the worlds exciting new contact sport.

Even if it had taken the world’s attention, MMA has yet to popularize itself enough, so much so that anybody would be familiar with its rules, or at least know how the game is conducted in the ring.

Like any popular sport, however, the audiences already knew its nickname (or at least what they see how the fight goes on TV) which is KICK – GRAPPLE – PUNCH. Actually, the many techniques adapted slightly for use in the new sport have been classified into informal groupings of fighting tactics like “kick”, “grapple” and “punch”.

Kicks

In reality, “kicks” belong to the first phase of Mixed Martial Arts which is the stand-up, the first position when combatants first meet on the floor. The techniques usually used here are kickboxing, Muay Thai, full contact karate, and regular boxing.

These are called the striking arts and use such attacking techniques as kicking and punching, elbowing, kneeing, and the defensive blocking.

Punch

This technique is included in the striking arts. As such, the fighter has to understand the concept of correct distance and timing. This is crucial because the combatants will decide which striking art is to be used in relation to their distance from one another.

In the out-of-range zone, the opponent is out of range from the fighter. Either the fighter shoots out for a takedown (advancing quickly towards the opponent) or closes in for a clinch are the two choices.

The punching range is the distance where the fighter can strike using fists, knees or elbows. Further away, he can use the jab punch. Boxing is the only art that concerns with punching distance.

Grapple

Grappling techniques (clinch holds, pinning holds, submission holds, sweeps, takedowns, and throws) mostly belong to the ground game. This is the phase of the game when combatants and the fight are on the floor. Knowledge of wrestling and the Brazilian jiu jitsu are best here.

The takedown, a grappling technique, is making the opponent lose his balance, bringing him to the floor, and the fighter is on the dominant top position.

Victory is normally done based on the judges’ decision, a stoppage by the referee (or a fight doctor should there be an injury) a submission (tap out), the corner man throwing a towel, or a knockout.

Through the years that the game had evolved, rules on fouls (head butting, manipulation of small joints, eye gouging, groin kick, etc.) have already been promulgated and enforced, although sometimes things differ from place to place.

Today, Mixed Martial Arts is the new darling of contact sports and many TV audiences have already taken notice of its different appeal. Still, the sport is evolving, and by the looks of things, is getting better and better.

Just like in any other sports, there are different techniques and styles that are used when playing Mixed Martial Arts. To begin with, the sport is a hybrid or a combination of several other fighting sports. Some people describe Mixed Martial Arts as a form of combined martial arts. Thus, it is not surprising that players are having and combining different styles. To many players and fans, this feature of Mixed Martial Arts make it all the more interesting and engaging compared to other sports.

There are hybrid styles of fighting in Mixed Martial Arts. Most players, called fighters, rely on combination of fighting techniques that are adapted to suit style and strengths. Sprawl-and-brawl is described as a stand-up fighting style and tactic consisting of effective striking. It avoids ground fighting, using typical sprawls for defense against takedowns. Technically, fighters who usually use this hybrid style include boxers, Thai boxers, contact karate fighters, and kick boxers. They train in wresting to learn avoiding takedowns so they could keep standing during the fight.

Clinch fighting is commonly described as dirty boxing because it involves moves and tactics that consist of clinch hold so that the opponent would be prevented from moving away to more distant range when striking. The clinch is a hybrid style that is frequently used by wrestlers who have added in striking game components that are typical in Muay Thai and boxing. In general, clinching are used by wrestlers to neutralize superior striking skills. Though clinching, the opponents position could be violently or strategically controlled.

Ground-and-pound involves throws and takedowns that are used to obtain dominant or top position. It is ground fighting technique that comprises of taking the opponent into the ground. This style of hybrid fighting is commonly used by wrestlers and other fighters who are well-versed when it comes to takedowns and submission defense. The effectiveness, ease, and reliability of ground-and-pound has really made it a very popular fighting tactic.

Submission grappling involves taking the opponent into the ground through a throw or takedown. Submission hold is then applied to force the opponent to get into submission. Grapplers would always work to gain dominant position. Lastly, lay-and-pray is a strategy used when a fighter could control the opponent so that an effective offense is mounted. The name is based on the position that makes a fighter appear like praying. This is one of the popular and strategic fighting techniques in Mixed Martial Arts.

Are you into challenging sports? You should try out Mixed Martial Arts. It is not just challenging. It involves total discipline and fighting skills. The sport is not for the weak and the impatient. It could be bloody and painful, that is why many people simply describe it as a human dog fight. However, the discipline and agility you would develop would give you the confidence and feeling as if you are invincible. It is challenging but fun at the same time.

Just like in all other sports, fighters (as players are called) in Mixed Martial Arts are into long and exhilarating physical training. You could easily infer that it takes so much time and effort to prepare for a Mixed Martial Arts bout than for any other sport. This is very much true. That is why you could instantly sense the intense discipline and strength training in fighters. Are you aiming to get into the sport? There are several preparations fighters usually do before Mixed Martial Arts bouts.

Fighters are not born and are not molded over night. They are made through long and tedious periods of training. To train for the fight, you need to get into strength and fitness training sessions first. You need to build your strength because Mixed Martial Arts is all about it. Develop not just bulky but also strong and functional muscles. There is a need to master martial arts techniques. Mixed Martial Arts facilitates combination of martial arts backgrounds and types. Thus, if you are looking for a personal trainer, you should not stick to only one. In fact, most Mixed Martial Arts fighters these days have more than one trainer. This is to make sure he could learn more and different martial arts tactics from different masters.

Also pay attention about your weight and nutrition. You do not need to lose weight or trim your measurement just to be able to be a good and successful fighter. There is no limitation in terms of eating. Rather, fighters are encouraged to always consume adequate supply of carbohydrates from different bard sources. It is best to eat a complete and satisfying meal at least two hours before a training session or a bout. This way, you could be sure your body would not run out of energy to keep on going. Eating nutritious bards and keeping a good immune system is essential.
