Nowadays the popularity of Jamaican music is increasing considerably all over the world. The sounds of the island include mostly Reggae, but also Ska, Dancehall and Rocksteady. As tourism is vital for the island, Jamaica is romanticized trough various media by emphasizing its music.

It is interesting to know that the term “reggae” came from the Jamaican word “streggae”, which describes a person who dresses a little on the raggedy side. The story tells that one day a couple of friends started dancing and imitating the streggae. Their newly invented dance and beat was named reggae. It became popular worldwide in the 1970′s mostly through the work of the amazing musician Bob Marley.

Jamaica is an island rich with history dating back to 1655 when England gained control of the island from Spain. With the slave trade, England moved many native Africans to the island. Cultures, languages and religion were blended by the people. The one-drop rhythm, the basis of Reggae, is distinctly African in nature.

There are some other traditional sounds in Jamaica, as part of the culture, including folk music, waltzes, ska and calypso. While Ska is a melodious blend of rhythm and blues, with harmonious vocals and horn instruments, Calypso, or mento, is a mix of African and European music, with acoustical instruments, guitars and banjo. Calypso actually emerged in the mid 20th century and spread throughout the whole Caribbean territory.

As a conclusion of this article, there is no doubt about the fact that Jamaican music will remain very popular in most areas of the world.

Jamaican music takes us to a mystical place, so different from our usual day to day life scenario, with an upbeat rhythm that give us a lift and make us happy.

Free Opportunities For New Bands To Be Heard Provided By IMRadio

I pretended playing my toy guitar along with videos on MTV since I was a kid and I have dreamed of having my tunes heard on the radio. But even if you’re a real good band, getting air time can be pretty difficult.

I was able to form a band five years ago and has been lucky enough to get an opportunity to play on some local stations. You may call that luck but it may not also be the right term to call it. We did work real hard to meet the right people who got us on air. It can be a real challenge.

New bands face an uphill climb because radio stations often do not put unknowns into their rotation. Usually those bands that you hear on the radio are not essentially the most talented. Often, they are the ones with the most financial backing and marketing efforts.

One of the most awesome resources I have found online is IMRadio. This web site says that it is by musicians, for musicians, and it really is. Some of our song files are now receiving free radio airplay in more than 100 countries when I registered an account and uploaded them into IMRadio’s rotation.

As a music lover, I like being able to hear other new artists, and appreciate their talent. IMRadio also features poets and comedians on the web site. Then I recommended IMRadio to some of the acts that I usually see around town, particularly the clubs and it is nice to see a following build up for IMRadio.

Now that my band is being heard, we are able to begin growing a fan base, which is so exciting. IMRadio has a message forum, giving the bands and their fans a communication venue as well for the bands to communicate with other bands.

If you considered yourself a budding musician or has a band that has been around for quite a while, I really recommend IMRadio. Take a look and see how easy it is to join, upload your song files, and get your music into rotation to be heard.

And if you are a music lover, be sure to stop by IMRadio and join. The talented groups will really amaze you.

Unsigned musicians, poets and comedians are benefiting the advantages offered by IMRadio.com free membership. Paddy Noonan, an artist, created this Internet radio, which is a place for all artists to upload their original works for free radio airplay.
