Samsung TV offers so many options that it is nearly impossible to look at their entire line of TVs and not be impressed. They have come a long way in the last two decades or so to become one of the premiere brands on the market today.

Because Samsung TV is constantly growing, adapting and developing, a brief description of their entire product line could be a pretty arduous task. We like a challenge, so we have put together a sort of guided tour of the wonderful world of Samsung and invite you along for the journey.

Samsung TVs in the plasma department offer a wide variety of options as far as price and quality goes. The “low-end” TVs are the series 4 TVs. These are all under $1,000 and feature 42″-50″ screens and 720p definition pictures. Technically this is the second generation of HDTV picture, but first in the hearts of many. In other words for the price, the picture is outstanding.

The top of the Samsung plasma line would be the series 8. These monsters start with a 50″ screen and keep growing until they reach a whopping 58″. They are all 1080p, which is the clearest picture currently available and come with an astounding 30,000,000:1 Mega Contrast. Basically this is just another way of saying that the picture looks really, REALLY good.

Samsung’s LED HDTVs should not be left out, their series 7 TVs are an outstanding LED value in the $2-3,000 range. This is good quality picture (1080p) for the cost. Picture size ranges from 46-55″ with a ton of extras and add-ons such as internet TV. The biggest deal with these has to be the price for the quality. I know it was mentioned before, but I get a little excited about it.

Samsung TV makes a series 8 as well. The series 8 is the next half generation of LED HDTVs really. These is some more software built in but with a 1080p picture quality and 50,000,000: 1 contrast ratio, there’s really not a whole lot more Samsung can do right now. Or so one would think. For the money the series 8 is a great deal, however, I’m a little sceptical as to whether there’s a significant improvement that justifies a slightly higher price; about $1,000.

The lower end of Samsung TV would be the LCD TVs. Traditionally, these models are lighter and thinner than the others without making your wallet lighter or thinner. They are a good value. The series 3 that Samsung has produced is a solid LCD TV at a solid value price in their series 3. The sizes range from $300 to about $600. These are 720p HDTVs though and while Samsung does a good job with them, they are what they are; a fast inexpensive fix. They are solidly made however and when the series came out, top of the line. The series 6 LCD HDTV that Samsung has put together is by far the best of the LCD TVs they produce. These monsters range in size from 42-65″ and have a 1080p picture with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio; respectable for an LCD to say the least. Overall, for an LCD TV I’d give them a top rating.

Samsung continues to break new ground with every new series of LCD, LED and plasma TV all the while refining their existing technology. By doing this there is no doubt they will continue to meet and exceed their customers’ expectations on a yearly basis.

The soon to be released, “This Is It” has Michael Jackson fans pumped and excited to revisit his last weeks before his untimely passing, just four months ago.

Because of the ongoing investigation and controversy surrounding his death, many of us will have the same thoughts about going to see it and will probably ask the question, “Is this too soon after his funeral?”

The “This Is It” film is more a behind the scenes documentary showing the rehearsals of his 50-show run at London’s O2 arena and was to be the King of Pop’s final tour. Because he was in the middle of these rehearsals led many to believe he was too frail or sick, or even under the influence of drugs to be able to complete this tour.

This was to be the King of Pop’s final tour. If you are thinking that Michael would be frail, sickly or under the influence of drugs as some have implied, think again. He is anything but that.

This “behind the scenes” documentary is interesting to watch and gives you a glimpse into Michael’s world. You’ll see just what Michael experiences in his daily rehearsals and just what a “perfectionist” he was. He was strong and moved effortlessly across the stage, singing and pouring his soul out, song after song.

“This is it” gives you a glimpse behind the scenes and what the King of Pop experiences to create such a huge show. It shows Michael strong and moving effortlessly, singing and dancing wonderfully as he always does, pouring his heart out, song after song, joking and laughing with his staff and team members.

You can see that he always wanted everyone to laugh and have fun. It was very interesting to watch Michael because he was such a perfectionist and it showed.

From the musicians to the dancers, to the special effects, Michael guided his team with a firm hand, but yet showed much compassion, love and kindness toward everyone around him. He was always quick to give a “God Bless” or “It’s all for love” at the end of every practice.

Whether you are a Michael Jackson fan or not, I can guarantee you that “This Is It” will make you think twice about him. The guy had a tremendously big heart for people and his music. You get that. And you feel it. And you won’t help but dance in your seat when you watch it. It’s very obvious after watching the King of Pop, that he was truly happy and healthy in the weeks before his untimely death. Although he will be missed dearly, we can now go back again and again through the “This Is It” film bartage to revisit our dear friend who will forever live on in our hearts, as we were in his.

Choosing Between Cable and Satellite Television

First of all, virtually nobody has an antenna anymore to watch TV, not even my grandparents who live literally in the middle of nowhere. It just doesn’t make sense and with the new technologies and broadcast standards coming into play within the next few years, it is a major question mark as to whether or not traditional broadcast TV will even be available. So you have two choices, how do you decide what is best for you?

Cable TV is a good option. Not excellent, perhaps not the best, but good. On the plus side, cable TV provides good picture clarity, good reception, and very few problems. Most cable TV providers can also give you HDTV (High Definition TV), although they will charge you more for it and you will need an enhanced cable box to really take advantage of all that HDTV brings to the table. And of course, the TV that you own must be able to display HDTV, and if your TV was manufactured more than 3-5 years ago, that might be a huge question mark that you should find out before you pay extra money for HDTV capabilities.

On the downside, it is expensive, typically a noticeable amount more expensive than the satellite TV counterpart. The basic cable service gives you a truckload of channels to choose from and you can also opt for (at additional cost) to have a Chinese menu of premium channels available, like sports channels, various movie channels, and more.

One thing to note is that your cable company MAY be willing to cut you a deal if they are also providing you with high-speed cable Internet access. It is worth checking into, but keep the bottom line cost in mind, as it really may not be a deal at all. Your cable company is probably also willing to provide you with a VOIP phone where you can make and receive phone calls over your high-speed Internet connection. Be aware of this because getting VOIP service from your cable provider is very likely your WORST and most cost INEFFECTIVE option! Satellite TV is typically a better choice, and almost always more cost effective. Yes, you can still get HDTV with a satellite TV connection. The picture quality will be equal to or better than what you get with cable. Your satellite dish will need to be mounted on the outside of your house and will require a clear and unobstructed view of the southern sky (in the US). The only real detriment to satellite TV is the fact that the picture quality can degrade during times of heavy rain or heavy snow. If you live in an area where this might be a frequent occurrence, this problem can be resolved for the most part by opting for a larger satellite dish, which will be more efficient at capturing the signals.

If you live in a rental house or an apartment, you will likely need to get permission from your landlord to mount your satellite dish on the building. If your particular neighborhood is big on aesthetics, they may not allow this, so be sure you have permission before placing your order.

The major satellite TV providers today, Dish Networks and DirecTV, typically offer free installation in up to 4 rooms of your home, and also provide free equipment, sometimes also including a DVR (Digital Video Recorder). During promos, you can sometimes also get about 3 free months of movie channels and sports channels to see if you like them. The provider is of course hoping you will like them and upgrade your account to include those channels.
