Best subwoofer setup for your soundbar?
And so, you have completed your research and also purchased the very best Soundbar to suit your needs. Wonderful. You start it up and begin enjoying a movie and everything seems fantastic till that tank moves onto screen, your teeth begin shaking and also the neighbours begin knocking on the wall.
The problem may be that your sub woofer level is set too high and may not be positioned optimally. First thing to do is to read your Soundbars manual and check that it is connected correctly and that you have gone through any onscreen setup procedures.
Now set the sound level in the Subwoofer to bare minimum and put on a superior bassy CD. Slowly and gradually push the volume upwards until you can hear it but, not so much that you will be concious of the Sub woofer as the source of the music.
Positioning wise you have some options – a corner typically works very well but this may depend on the range of your wireless or cable link. It may also generate too much bass.
If your Subwoofer is wi-fi make sure to ensure that it stays a minimum of 2m from any additional wi-fi products. (Phones, Network). Also remember that not many subs are magnetically shielded so might interfere or even harm PCs or displays if positioned too close.
If you’re serious about getting the best possible sound then try this: Place the subwoofer in your normal listening position. Get a CD with plenty of bass playing, or better yet a repeating sample of music. Now slowly crawl around the room and note the locations where it sounds best. If one of the locations is suitable for the sub to be positioned in then move the Sub to that location and see how that now sounds from your main listening position. You may need to repeat a couple of times to find the best spot that gives a practical location for the sub and the best sound. You also need to remember that there are limits on how far from the Soundbar the sub will be able to go. This will depend on make, model and whether the connection is wired or wireless.

Review about the mini series Band of Brothers
The HBO mini series Band of Brothers is viewed as among the finest warfare motion pictures ever made. Based on the book by Stephen Ambrose, the ten episodes tell the story from the men of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Regiment of the American 101st Airborne. The mini series begins with their basic training at Toccoa, Georgia prior to heading on to Britain as they prepare for a part in the D-Day Landings at Normandy.
Every episode starts off by talking to veterans of Easy. They talk about their war time memories that this episode covers though at this point, the veterans aren’t revealed. Even if the veterans aren’t identified, the episodes introduce you to the figures early and the actors are superbly chosen meaning it is easy to relate to them from the very start.
Whilst the action scenes are filmed superbly, the reason Band of Brothers stand above a number of different war movies is the fact it reveals the personal tales so clearly. For instance, in episode two simply prior to Easy are set to drop into Normandy, one of the soldiers, Bill Guarnere, learns his brother has been killed at Montecassino.
The 10 episodes convey the stories of Easy Company beginning with their basic training before heading into war in Normandy and on to the village of Carentan. Episode four sees the roll-out of replacement soldiers into Easy Company and highlights the challenges they have being accepted by veterans of Normandy as Easy take part in Operation Market Garden.
The subsequent 2 episodes include the build-up and then the action at Bastogne throughout the Battle of the Bulge. By now many of the men are at breaking point and it is the subject of episode seven. As the war in Europe nears the conclusion, there is a final patrol for Easy. The horrors of war are underlined the minute the men come across a concentration camp. The last episode sees Easy Company head into Austria where they capture the Eagle’s Nest high in the mountains at Berchtesgaden.
The series closes with interviews with the men of Easy Company and finally identifies the men that audiences have come to know throughout the ten episodes of Band of Brothers.

Finding a Balance in Media Quality
What is quality in relation to the entertainment media? Part of the problem in answering this question is that what viewers regard as quality and what entertainment media executives see as quality may be very different things. Another part of the problem is that the entertainment industry, unlike businesses, are multifaceted. In commerce, quality is evidently linked to profit and loss. In medicine quality can be gauged in terms of the ability to keep people healthy. However, quality in the media has no concrete measure. And consequently, it is difficult to decide whether it should be defined in terms of financial success, an enriching experience or the ability to empower?
Profit is the most obvious definition of quality in the entertainment media and such a definition has value. When entertainment media products make a profit it leads to jobs, associated products and even international commerce is improved. Careers such areas as the arts, fashion, journalism, advertising and even sports can all flourish from profit-making entertainment media. But of course such an approach has many drawbacks. First, if profits are the measure of quality, then there will inevitably be much of the same in terms of material. One of the overwhelming rules of profit is, “if it works once, let’s do it again.” Hence “Lion King 2″, “Speed 2″, and so on. Moreover, the effect of a profit-making definition can also be seen in cheap but very non-artistic productions. Profit-making, as a definition of quality, stands almost in opposition to art because the most important element in creating art is the freedom to fail, both artistically and financially. In a profit-making environment, failure is an unacceptable reality that means you will probably not get a second chance.
Another way to ascertain quality is in terms of enrichment. The problem is that unlike profit, it is more difficult to know exactly what enrichment is. Something one enjoys is not necessarily enriching. And the above mentioned sequels, while giving pleasure, are not enrichment. Having stated what enrichment isn’t however, doesn’t help us come any closer to knowing what it is. According to the Cambridge dictionary, to enrich something means to improve the quality. In relation to the entertainment industry the improving factor should be:- something that is thought provoking. And according to that definition quite a few movies in popular culture can be classified as enriching.
Popular entertainment is enriching when it makes us think about our lives and reassess how we regard the world. Films such as “The Fisher King” or “Awakening” show us people struggling with real problems. The issues are often painful and do not involve the prescribed fairy tale ending where everyone lives happily ever after. On the contrary instead of standing up and dusting off the trauma and grief with a wry smile or a funny comment, which are the typical responses in the superficial popular movies, we see characters struggle to come to terms with life-changing events and that struggle is not always successful.
Another aspect of quality is empowerment. There are a limited number of shows that do this on either TV or the big screen. “Oprah” and “Dr. Phil” have become classics of this type of entertainment on TV. Both these shows deal with ordinary people and their regular problems. The subjects vary from health to violence to abuse to finances. No subject is taboo and everyone wants to go on these shows. Why? Because they empower. They give the regular person who is living the experience or failure, a feeling of one with those around them. They are often given help and advice and those watching are frequently inspired to take control of a similar issue. These shows have become so popular that more of them are slowly coming into being, the latest being a show that focuses on empowering women.
It is impossible to separate the profit motive from quality, but as long as we, the viewers, let the entertainment media executives know that we want the enriching and empowering experiences then that is what we stand a chance of getting. We cannot allow ourselves to just sit by and watch passively what they choose to give us. We have to watch the shows that are not always comfortable, the shows that make us confront painful issues such as, drugs, grief, death, etc. or the shows that ask us to do something to change the situation. And as long as we watch these shows they will bring in a profit and we will get more of them and our lives will be further enriched and empowered. And we will no longer be merely passive receptacles being filled with what those in power want to give us.
